Convert Image Format (JPG, PNG, WebP)

Convert between JPG, PNG, and WebP instantly and privately.

Your photo is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

When you need this

The form only accepts JPG

Many government portals accept JPEG and nothing else. Phones increasingly shoot HEIC, and screenshots are usually PNG, so a conversion step is often the only thing between a valid photo and a rejected upload.

You need a smaller file without visible loss

Converting a PNG photograph to JPG frequently cuts the file size by most of its bulk, because PNG is designed for graphics and flat colour rather than photographs.

Transparency is causing a black background

A PNG with a transparent background turns black in some systems. Converting to JPG flattens it onto white, which is usually what an application form expects anyway.

How to do it properly

  1. 1

Pick the format the form asks for

JPG for photographs and almost all official uploads. PNG only when you need transparency or are working with text and line art.

  2. 2

Set the quality for lossy formats

For JPG and WebP, around 85–90% is visually indistinguishable from the original for a portrait while being much smaller. Drop lower only if a file-size limit forces it.

  3. 3

    Convert and verify

Check the result before uploading, particularly if the source had transparency — that is where conversion most often surprises people.

If something goes wrong

My HEIC photo will not convert

HEIC support depends on the browser. If it fails, open the photo on your phone and share or export it as JPEG first, then use the tool for any further work.

The background turned black

The source had transparency and was converted to a format that cannot store it. Convert to JPG here, which flattens transparency onto white rather than black.

Is WebP safe for an official upload?

Usually not. WebP is excellent for websites but many government portals do not accept it. Use JPG unless the form explicitly lists WebP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG (or JPG to PNG)?
Upload your image, choose the target format, and click Convert. For JPG output, transparent areas are flattened onto white.
Does converting upload my image?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser; the file is never sent to a server.
What is WebP and should I use it?
WebP is a modern format with smaller files at similar quality. It's great for the web, but use JPG or PNG when a portal requires it.
